Background

During my time working for a major global financial services company, I was involved in the design of their internal data capturing system for end-of-day fixed income and currency rates, which is used to compose an internal set of rates. Aside from the ability to manage market data, the application’s other main objective is the ability to track and store every step of the process for auditing purposes. The online application is accessible to both managers and regulators across multiple continents, through a secure Global User Interface (GUI).

the brief

The rate capturing process that the bank was using was too complex, opaque and forced users to rely on Python programmers to update in order to reach their end goal. Their previous system was manually intensive and time-consuming.

Process

Together with one other UX designer, a business analyst and a developer, we spent several weeks interviewing various user groups, developing user flows and sketching wireframes in order to understand complex concepts that underlined user needs, such as the need for a higher level of autonomy therefore reducing the complexity of how the process was being managed.

the solution

As a UX designer, I worked with a senior UX designer, a business analyst and a developer in designing a user friendly Global User Interface (GUI), which allows users to complete their daily tasks without depending on other business areas. We spent several weeks interviewing various user groups, enabling a higher level of autonomy for users to reduce the complexity of how the process was being managed.

Outcome

The team successfully delivered a Global User Interface that enables users to complete their daily tasks without depending on other business areas. We then handed over a set of low fidelity wireframes to visual designers.
